Come and See

Come and see what the Gospels have to say.  Spend time in the Bible.

John 1:35-42

If you ever wanted to see Jesus’ brand of evangelism, you just need to look at this passage. John, who had a lot of followers because they thought he was great, had just pointed out Jesus as somebody greater and the disciples were both stunned and excited. Someone more awesome than John?

So they went to him and asked him where he stayed. The reason they wanted to know where he lived was presumably so that they could spend some time with him. Jesus simply said: Come and see. And because they did, they discovered the Messiah who changed their lives forever.

When I was a little boy, I was very picky about food. Whenever it came to trying out something new, I’d be more reluctant than inclined to try it. One day, my family had gone out to dinner and my father ordered a dish that he liked. I didn’t like the look of it, so I refused a serving.
My dad said: You’ll never know if you like something unless you’ve tried it. Try it; if you don’t like it, don’t take anymore. Reluctantly I took a spoonful and it was one of the most amazing things I have ever eaten. I will now try everything—at least once, and that applies to everything in life, including skydiving.
It’s common sense, right, but you’d be surprised how many people have a similar reluctance to try things that are new. I invite you this year to come and see Jesus in his home – that’s in his word. Make a resolution to read the gospels this month and see how dwelling with the Messiah will change your life.
